As an interior design student, I am often considering the importance of our surroundings. I find myself getting most excited about my career when I contemplate the associations I have formed with the spaces I have been in. My childhood home still holds a vivid memory, allowing me to go back whenever I please. Through the concrete remembrance of a space, I am able to recollect the events and milestones and associate them with a clear picture. Because of this concrete imagery, much of my recollection of the past is rooted by the space or surroundings that I was in at the time. The attachment we form to people is loosely mirrored in the relationship we form with a space. While people are able to interact back, a space is refreshing in the sense that it can be a silent and effortless solace. In my future work, I am hoping to integrate an independent study to understand the connection and influence a space has on cognition by taking what I have learned in my psychology courses and applying them.
My goal for my work is that I will continue to push myself and improve. I am entering into a career that is always changing, allowing no excuse for complacency. I will continue to challenge myself and question design, never letting the fear of the unknown to get in my way. I am thrilled for the day when I will see my designs come to life and witness the interactions first hand of the user and the space.
